Guinea - Before Martial Rule
Guinea, one of the poorest country in the world is currently undergoing turmoil because of the implementation of martial law and limited curfew. Since early January, about 100 were killed and more were injured from the ranks of demonstrators who are demanding the resignation of President Lansana Conte. The U.S.Embassy had airlifted U.S. citizens who choose to be evacuated to a safer place. Because of security reasons, air transport is limited out of Guinea. The demand of the labor union for Conte to resign continues and if the problem will not be resolved soon, Guinea will end up like her neighbors who suffered many years of civil conflict. These images were taken last year and there were already visible signs of an impending problem. Similar events happened in the Philippines before Marcos installed a dictatorial government that lasted for 14 years.
